Makita LITHIUM-ION (LXT) Battery Compatibility

With over 100 power tools across the 18v range, we can understand the importance of choosing the correct battery for each power tool and vice versa. Makita 18V batteries feature one of the fastest charge times in their categories, allowing users to maximize their usage.

Compatible with many Makita Gardening and Cordless Power Tools, the most popular choices include Makita 18v BL1830 3amp Battery, Makita 18v BL1840 4amp Battery and Makita BL1850 5amp Battery.
Makita BL1830 18V LXT 3.0Ah Li-Ion Battery
The Makita BL1830 3 Amp Battery comes in a lightweight and shock-absorbing design, featuring Li-Ion Technology and returning 430% more working capacity during its lifetime compared to Ni-Cad, and 40% Lighter than Ni-MH. The Li-ion has minimal power depletion during use or storage over its lifetime.
Additional features include:
- LED battery indicator.
- Slide on battery – firm holding with multi contacts and shock absorbing pack, will not puncture and remains cool even in heavy use.
- Unbeatable 22-minute charge time.
- Works with your current Li-ion Chargers.
- Longer run time and battery life.

Makita BL1840 18V LXT 4.0Ah Li-Ion Battery
The Makita Bl1840 Battery features the same design, weight and Lithium-Ion technology as the BL1830 and BL1850 while returning increased battery charge, facilitated by the 4.0 amp.
Additional Features Include:
- Foam cell technology
- Slide on battery – firm holding with multi contacts and shock absorbing pack, will not puncture and remains cool even in heavy use.
- LED battery indicator.
- Unbeatable 36-minute charge time
- Same weight as the 3.0Ah battery

Makita Battery BL1850 18V 5Ah Lithium-Ion
The Makita BL1850 18v 5.0Ah Li-Ion battery returns 66% extra runtime than the BL1830 3.0Ah with a charge time of only 45 minutes. The power output from the 5.0Ah battery is consistent and noticeably greater than that of the 3.0 or 4.0Ah whilst delivering that stronger power output and longer runtime.
Additional Features Include:
- Foam cell technology
- Slide on battery – firm holding with multi contacts and shock absorbing pack, will not puncture and remains cool even in heavy use.
- Unbeatable 45-minute charge time
- Same weight and size as 3Ah or 4Ah battery
- Works with your current Li-ion Chargers
- Longer run time and battery life

Compatible Chargers
Although BL1830, BL1840 & BL1850 are compatible with the majority of Makita 18v Battery Chargers, the minimum charging time is only achieved in conjunction with Makita’s rapid chargers: The single port DC18Rc or twin charger DC18RD.

Optimal Charging
Looking at the graphics, the difference in charging between Well-Balanced Charging and Unbalanced charging can be noticed. As you can expect, the Makita Lithium-Ion charges all cells equally while also discharging them evenly, resulting in all cells being used to their maximum potential, increasing the battery performance and charge time.
All Makita 18v and 14v feature a built-in memory chip, allowing one to record the battery usage history. Moreover, the built-in CPU will communicate with each battery, allowing it to determine its condition (over-discharging, heat abuse, etc.) while facilitating an optimized charging system.
One of the greatest advantages of Makita LXT Batteries is that they can be charged anytime without waiting for the power to fully deploy.
Power Tool Compatibility
The 4.0Ah BL1840 and 5.0Ah BL1850 will be compatible with 18v Makita Power Tools if it has a start on the connector place, has a yellow connected place only or have a yellow connector plate with a star.
Look for the ‘Star’ or a ‘Yellow Connector’
