Meet the Makita 40V Max XGT Range

Last updated: April 15, 2025

The Makita 40V Max XGT range takes lithium-ion battery technology to the next level. Following on from their 15-year-old industry-renowned LXT battery system, Makita has launched a new 40V XGT range for dealing with the toughest jobs.

Launched in 2020, the XGT range is a completely new system with its own selection of cordless tools, batteries, chargers and accessories. This range combines innovative new tool design and technology with higher output batteries to provide a better platform for heavier industrial applications.

Makita 40V Max XGT Range

The Makita 40V range introduces a host of benefits and new features aimed at helping you to work faster, more efficiently, and more safely.

High Power

Makita 40V Max is the most powerful battery system in the entire Makita range and performs significantly better than its LXT predecessor. This increased power output, coupled with an innovative tool design, makes the 40V Max range a practical solution for high-demand industrial applications where traditional cordless tools won’t fit the bill. XGT cordless machines are so powerful in fact, that they can genuinely rival the power output of corded or even petrol machines!

Benefitting from a completely new design with improved construction and new technologies, the XGT batteries can offer optimum power and performance without sacrificing run-time. They deliver great run time with all the power that is needed for heavier, tougher jobs.

Future Proof

Rather than introducing the XGT range as a replacement for the LXT range, they are designed to complement LXT tools and offer better features for demanding industrial applications. The LXT range is still very much alive, and Makita is continually developing new products, so rest assured that your older tools won’t become obsolete!

Fast Charging

The Makita XGT platform is one of the most reliable battery platforms around, providing excellent power and run time with a very short charge time. In as little as 28 minutes of charge time for the 2.5Ah battery and 45 minutes for the 4.0Ah battery, you won’t need to take hours out of your day to charge your tools. The integrated rapid charger’s digital display helpfully indicates the battery charge level, so you’ll know exactly when you can return to work. Additionally, the 40V chargers feature an auto maintenance system with two cooling fans that provide optimum fast charging.

Smart Technology

The Makita 40V Range introduces a new, unique smart system technology to optimise battery performance and charge times. This integrated program allows for digital communication between the battery and charger as well as the battery and tool, which helps provide protection against issues such as overheating and over-discharge. In practice, this can mean that if the battery overheats, the charger will cool it down automatically before the charging begins.

The 40V Max XGT Batteries

The Makita 40V Battery is an excellent choice for any industrial workplace. It is designed for long-term durability in challenging environments. The battery is encased in a heavy housing with a layer of duty shock-absorbing padding and IPX4 water protection.

A higher output from the battery coupled with a great run time means that these batteries are perfect for use in longer, more demanding work sessions. They also charge incredibly quickly, meaning you can return to work sooner rather than later!

The all-new digital battery interface in the XGT batteries communicates essential performance data to the tool to protect against any critical overheating or discharge, with the integrated smart system ensuring that updates can easily be introduced further down the line.

Makita Tools

Let’s take a look at some of the finest tools from the Makita 40V Range.

All models are available as body-only machines or complete models with batteries, chargers, and ADP10 adaptors for charging LXT 18V batteries via the XGT 40V charger.

Compatibility with the LXT Range

Although the new Makita 40v XGT tools aren’t compatible with the 18V LXT batteries and vice versa, Makita have released a charging adaptor to help alleviate this.

The charging adaptor allows users to recharge 40V and 18V batteries from the same unit, reducing the number of accessories needed and saving money.
